On March 30th, The Sun in England reported Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have joined Manchester City in the race to sign Ben Chilwell of Leicester City in the summer.
It was explained that Pep Guardiola wants to bring in a new defender due to Benjamin Mendy’s injury woes and the 22-year-old was identified as the Etihad outfut’s No.1 target.
However, a source close to the situation has told Sport Witness the reports linking the 22-year-old with the English champions are ‘rubbish’.
Last October, the England international signed a new deal at the King Power Stadium and his current deal runs down in 2024.
Brendan Rodgers has stressed that he doesn’t want to lose the defender in the summer.
“He’s a wonderful young player, he’s still got a lot to learn in his game. He really enjoys being here, we’ll see how it pans out but he’s certainly one we don’t want to lose,” the former Liverpool manager said about Chilwell in March.
