On August 30th, Newcastle United completed the signing of Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart for a reported fee €70m plus €5m bonuses.
Prior to joining Newcastle, Bayern Munich made several attempts to secure his service, but weren’t able to find an agreement.
Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has been speaking to 11 Freunde about his summer business. This includes the failure to sign the current Newcastle player, Sport1 have relayed his comments.
The Bundesliga winners’ official says the 23-year-old was determined to join them before moving to Newcastle United.
“Nick Woltemade repeatedly confirmed to us that he absolutely wanted to join FC Bayern, but VfB Stuttgart was unwilling to accept our offer. Which is the right of any club that has an ongoing contract with a professional,” he said.
The Germany international’s decision to pick the Magpies hasn’t gone down well at Bayern Munich. Their board member, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, had labelled Eddie Howe’s side as ‘idiots’ for spending big on the striker.

“Nick is still a great player and a super guy, but he’s a different type of player than Florian Wirtz. Ultimately, we wanted to stick to our budget strategy.”
The frontman has enjoyed a good start to his life at St James’ Park, by regularly starring on the pitch. He’s scored five goals from nine matches, including three in last three league matches and is already a much liked character.
