Luis Enrique wants to take Leeds United defender Diego Llorente from Roma to Paris Saint Germain, but Jose Mourinho won’t make it easy.

That’s according to Canal Supporters Club in France, relaying information from Spain, with the French giants reportedly targeting the Spanish defender as a replacement for the injured Milan Skriniar.

They explain that Luis Enrique needs a centre back who ‘gives him confidence’ and he is drawing up a list of names in that regard.

Injury problems in defence, plus a potential departure to Bayern Munich for Nordi Mukiele, have left the French side short and they want to rectify that in this window.

A list of options is being drawn up by manager Luis Enrique and ‘one name stands out’ on that list, Leeds United man Diego Llorente, who is currently on loan at Roma.

That’s the first problem he’s encountering in a potential move as Llorente is having a strong campaign under Mourinho in the Italian capital, establishing himself as a key player and regular in the team. They also have a purchase option included in their deal for the player that seems likely to be activated.

They’re reluctant to let the defender leave Rome, particularly as they deal with their own injury problems in defence and Mourinho won’t want to lose a player he considers a starter.

That’s not stopping PSG and Enrique in particular from showing an interest, with Llorente having always been a favourite for the Spanish coach, who made him a regular when he managed Spain.

The situation is complicated because of the agreement Roma have with Leeds, and despite the Championship side holding the cards, PSG would still need to convince their Italian counterparts to break the loan deal.

That’s something Mourinho is unlikely to sanction at this point, with his own injury problems in defence making him reluctant to allow Llorente to leave.

Perhaps he and Roma could be persuaded by PSG but that’s something they’re yet to fully explore and, for now, the Leeds loanee appears to be staying where he is as a result.
