Andoni Iraola will leave Bournemouth in the summer, having witnessed a significant rise in stature since moving to England. The Spaniard is now being lined up for a surprise move to Italy.
Iraola’s high-intensity approach seemed tailor made for the Premier League. Under him, the Cherries pressed high off the ball and when in possession, they attacked quickly and in a very direct manner.
There is still a chance of Bournemouth qualifying for Europe, as they are only two points away from a Europa League spot.
Despite that, struggling Fiorentina see Iraola as a managerial target.
La Viola planning ambitious attempt
Corriere Fiorentino today look at Fiorentina’s plans for the summer, as they have managed to steer clear of relegation.
Whilst Paolo Vanoli has done a good job at achieving that, his future isn’t certain. Fabio Paratici wants to make some big changes at the club, laying down a significant project for the future.
The Italian is interested in the current Bournemouth manager. Iraola is seen as an upgrade over Vanoli, who was only hired at the turn of the year.
The report does push Manchester United’s interest but from a Fiorentina perspective, they are in the driving seat. Strangely enough, Enzo Maresca is seen as a less appealing target, even if he is without a club.
The same also applies to Fabio Grosso, who is impressing at Sassuolo and is still in much less demand than Iraola.
Our take: Fiorentina selling a dream
This isn’t the first time Andoni Iraola has been mentioned in the same sentence as Fiorentina. Sport Witness have previously covered Italy legend Antonio Cassano’s recommendation to La Viola about hiring the Bournemouth manager.
There is every chance that could be behind this speculation. Besides, Fiorentina are at a crucial point in history and Paratici’s arrival has brought some promise of recovery.
The Italian does bring ambition with him but is known to promote his ideas to the press in a glorified way. This was especially true at Juventus.
At Fiorentina, the reality is much different – from a stature and financial perspective. The Florence club have been facing multiple off-field troubles in recent months, which should push Iraola to look at other options.
