Last summer, Crystal Palace were determined to sign Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis but a move never materialised.
Thursday’s edition of Het Nieuwsblad covers the Premier League club’s failed attempt to secure the 23-year-old’s services.
Crystal Palace tabled a €32m bid and the winger was keen on making a switch to the Premier League. A move to Selhurst Park would have seen him boost his salary 2.5X.
However, Club Brugge rejected the Eagles’ proposal. They felt his valuation would increase further next year and their decision to turn down Crystal Palace is paying off.
The Greece international has scored eight goals and contributed nine assists from 23 matches this season. His performances for the Jupiler Pro League side have already seen him attract further interest.
Crystal Palace now face Atlético Madrid competition
It’s claimed Atlético Madrid have joined several unnamed English clubs in registering their interest with his entourage. It’s quite possible for the FA Cup winners to be in this list.
Club Brugge haven’t been approached by the La Liga side yet. They have no plans of letting Tzolis leave in the winter market.
The newspaper states a sale next summer is expected to be ‘more realistic’, but only if the deal is right for both parties. Transfermarkt currently values him at €30m, however, Club Brugge could demand much more.
In other words, the door is open for Crystal Palace to make a fresh attempt. Whether they will return for Tzolis in 2026 remains to be seen.
