Since April, West Ham United have been repeatedly linked to Corinthians youngster Wesley.
It was said the Hammers placed €15m and €18m bids, but with the Brazilian club hopeful they could get much more for the transfer, they turned down those attempts.
It turns out that the bigger offers never really arrived at Corinthians. And Area Napoli now shares a report which should may make West Ham fans wonder about what’s happening.
Napoli have been linked to Wesley recently, and that’s why Radio Kiss Kiss invited ESPN’s correspondent in Brazil, Diego Mezzogiorno, to talk about the player.
The reporter claimed that Wesley is now expected to be worth much less, with the Serie A side possibly signing him for €10m… which may be going too far the other way.
“A fortnight ago, a journalist covering Corinthians in Brazil got the news that some Napoli executives were following the boy. When I had the chance to talk to Conte and De Laurentiis I asked them. Porto and West Ham have been on Wesley’s trail for some time, he plays like Kvaratskhelia.
“He would be an option to replace the Georgian in the future. The coach hasn’t confirmed it to me, but he hasn’t told me no. If Napoli want him, they would take this boy for €10m.
“It’s a gamble, maybe he comes to Italy and makes it big or it could be a flop.”
When West Ham placed their bids and Corinthians expected to make more, we pointed out that the Brazilian club seemed to be expecting far too much for a player who hasn’t shown as much as other talents.
It’s no surprise if they regret having rejected the bids from the Hammers, and since the London side completed the signing of Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras, they’re unlikely to try again.
