Tomáš Souček left Slavia Prague for West Ham United in January 2020 and he’s been a regular for the Premier League side since then.

Last season, the midfielder started every league game and was one of the key figures in helping the Hammers qualify for the Europa League. He contributed 10 goals and three assists and has continued to excel for the English club this campaign.

The Czech Republic international’s form has seen him catch attention of the ‘best teams in the world’. That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio’s Grand Hotel Calciomercato, who provide a background on the failed attempts made by Fiorentina and Genoa in signing the player.

It’s claimed the two Serie A sides ‘decided to carry out the operation’ for the 26-year-old, when he was at Slavia Prague.

La Viola met Souček’s agent Pavel Paska ‘several times’ and despite making ‘attempt after attempt’, they couldn’t find an agreement with the representative.

Meanwhile, Genoa scouts were convinced with his performances for Slavia Prague, but his then asking price of €7m was deemed too high for them. Therefore, the negotiations did not progress further.

The website end their report by stating: ‘Souček -Italy, nothing done, between regrets and thoughts on what could have been, but it was not a classic of the transfer market’.

Souček is one of the vital players for West Ham under David Moyes and has a contract with the London club until 2024.
