It is hard to overstate how much Atletico Madrid want to sign Julian Alvarez, at least if the Spanish media is to be believed.
Los Rojiblancos have been linked with a move for the Manchester City player for months. Claims of PSG moving into the picture in recent days appear to have given them a kick up the behind and the situation feels more serious now.
The public back and forth between Alvarez and Pep Guardiola over a potential transfer this summer has made it clear that an exit is possible, and Atletico Madrid are waiting to put down the ‘red carpet’ to welcome him.
That’s according to Marca, who go over the efforts which have been ongoing. It’s stated that despite claims otherwise from elsewhere, Manchester City haven’t yet produced an asking price.
Atletico Madrid players have been working in the background, with Argentine’s Rodrigo De Paul and Nahuel Molina said to be telling Alvarez how good it is to live in Madrid and play for Diego Simeone.
At the Olympics, Alvarez was in the Argentina squad with Giuliano Simeone, who also plays for Atletico and is Diego’s son. He’s been working on the transfer charm too, and Antonio Griezmann is said to have sent messages on social media.
Marca say Alvarez has been told he would be Atletico Madrid’s ‘franchise player’, and become the face of the club.
