Yari Verschaeren has been at Anderlecht since a very young age and after coming through the ranks of their academy, he made his first team debut in November 2018.

Since then, the midfielder has made 28 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League side and his performances have caught Southampton’s attention.

Calciomercato has a report about the 18-year-old and the headline reads ‘Southampton: Verschaeren in the crosshairs’. In a short update with the story, they claim the Saints ‘like’ the teenager, who has a contract with Anderlecht until 2022.

The Italian website doesn’t specify if Southampton have any plans to make an approach for the player, who can operate as a central or attacking midfielder.

Verschaeren’s displays for his club have been sufficient for him to make it to Belgium squad for this month’s international fixture. He came off the bench against Scotland to make his national team debut.

If Southampton want to make a move, it’s probably best them deciding sooner rather than later and potentially trying to agree a deal ahead of next summer.
