Tottenham Hotspur’s attempt to sign Porto striker Zé Luís is covered by several Portuguese newspapers today, all saying that a loan deal is very unlikely to go through.

Outlet Record is the one with the most complete story, as they bring a few details on how it started and why the Dragons aren’t accepting the offer.

They say it was the player’s agent José Fouto who was planning the transfer with Tottenham, and Jorge Mendes’ company Gestifute would get involved to help.

Spurs put on the table an offer for a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season, but Porto didn’t like it, as they want at least to recover the €10m paid for the player in the summer.

One of the many reasons why Porto couldn’t accept the bid is that Tottenham were offering too little for the loan deal.

The other problem is that Zé Luís is 28, and in case Spurs didn’t use the buy option, he’d be back at Porto at the age of 29, making it quite difficult to find a good transfer again.

So even though the work permit has been pointed out as a big issue for this transfer to happen, it seems the clubs couldn’t even get to a deal before that.
