Back at the start of the month, when Kasper Schmeichel was sorting his departure from Leicester City, we got to cover many reports from the Portuguese media saying the Foxes were interested in Odysseas Vlachodimos.
The Benfica goalkeeper is close to leaving the Eagles this summer, and it was repeatedly reported that the King Power Stadium could end up being his destination.
That chase, however, suddenly went quiet and disappeared, and it turns out that today, as newspaper Correio da Manhã talks about the Greek player, they come up with an explanation why the Leicester City move didn’t work out.
Amid rumours of Vlachidimos’s transfer to Manchester United, the outlet explains that as the player’s agent look for a summer move, the club they actually ‘got to a deal’ with were the Foxes.
It’s claimed, however, that Leicester City ‘gave up’ on the signing because of Benfica’s delay in taking a final decision on the transfer.
There had been an agreement for the move to be done for €8m, and the Lisbon side kept waiting as they hoped they could make something around €15m.
With the switch collapsing, Vlachodimos seems to be going nowhere, because as reported by Record today, Benfica continue to wait for the offers for him.
And the Foxes seem to have moved on, signing Alex Smithies from Cardiff City.
