On August 14th, we carried a report from Spanish website Fichajes, who claimed Manchester City Patrick Roberts was set to join Girona in the ‘next few hours’.
In Thursday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, there is once again mention of the 21-year-old. It’s claimed the La Liga outfit’s director of sports, Quique Cárcel and his club were hoping to make the former Fulham man’s arrival official.
However, they were unable to do the same because of the lack of paperwork by the English Federation prevented the player from joining Eusebio Sacristan’s side.
This does not mean the deal will not go through, only that the official confirmation will take more time than initially accepted, which may not go down well with Girona.
Roberts, who spent the last two seasons on loan at Celtic, was already at the Spanish club’s training ground, La Vinya. The report says it was claimed two days ago that he will join Girona on loan and despite the delay, the deal could be now made official in the ‘next few hours’.
