Real Zaragoza have not given up hope of signing Watford striker Luis Suárez on loan again next season.

The Colombian striker has been on loan with the LaLiga 2 side since the summer and impressed, managing 17 goals in all competitions so far.

That form has earned him a slew of admirers, with clubs from La Liga and Serie A all thought to be keen on signing him in the summer.

Those rumours meant that his prospects of staying at Zaragoza next season were slim at best but AS report they have not given up hope just yet.

According to the newspaper, if the club were to achieve promotion to the top flight this season, the chances Suárez extending his stay would ‘increase’ because the player wants to stay at the club for another year.

So, they are not giving up yet, and Watford’s own plans may play into the hands. Amid the interest in him, they’ve slapped a €50m price tag on his head, a figure no club will pay in the current economic climate caused by the Coronavirus outbreak.

Thus the likelihood of a move elsewhere is lessening and, if they get the player to agree to a new, improved and extended contract like they plan, there is a feeling Suárez could ‘force’ the option of another loan spell at Zaragoza to be included.

That would presumably suit Watford, who could tie down their rising star and ensure he is playing at a higher level next season.

His staying, though, is dependant on the future of coach Victor Fernandez.

If he stays, then Suárez will happily return. If not, he will either return to Watford or be sent elsewhere.
