With just months until the end of Paul Pogba’s contract with Manchester United, we now start seeing the first signs of the avalanche of rumours that’s about to come up.

One of them links the French star with a move to Barcelona, who, following a big financial crisis, would be glad to sign such a player on a free move.

The club’s intention to get the 28-year-old was first reported by Fichajes and Catalan outlet Sport managed today to ‘confirm that Pogba is a real target’.

It’s said the midfielder has always been ‘seduced’ by the chance of playing for Barcelona, and with the chance of moving next summer, that could finally happen.

However, Barcelona can’t pay Pogba so much money. That means he’d need to make an ‘important economic effort’ to sign for the club, otherwise other sides such as Juventus and Paris Saint Germain would have a clear advantage in the race.

Sport makes it clear that Barça ‘value the Frenchman’s profile very positively’ as he ‘answers to the profile the club look for’. Now they’d need to find an agreement with the player and his agent Mino Raiola, with whom the negotiations ‘would not be easy’.

Manchester United, of course, will continue to work on a renewal, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won’t want to see the midfielder leave next summer.
