Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi should be in contention to face Manchester United in the Europa League at the Reale Arena on Thursday, according to Noticias de Gipuzkoa.
There were concerns over the midfielder’s involvement against Manchester United after he picked an injury in his side’s 4-0 defeat to Barcelona on Sunday.
Noticias de Gipuzkoa state the 28-year-old’s injury had set off ‘alarm bells’ at La Real. He underwent an MRI scan, and results have shown he hasn’t ‘suffered a fibre tear’.
If things remain normal, the Spain international can face Manchester United later this week. The newspaper, however, warns that he will be kept in ‘cotton wool’ until kick-off on Thursday.
The Spanish club won’t issue an official update on the player’s injury. Noticias de Gipuzkoa suggests this would be a confirmation that he hasn’t suffered a serious setback.
The latest update on Zubimendi should come as an encouragement for La Real and their manager, Imanol Alguacil. At the weekend, the manager stated Mikel Oyarzabal wasn’t fit to face Barcelona while Luka Sučić was sidelined with an injury.
Real Sociedad had a training session on Monday afternoon and both Oyarzabal and Sučić have returned to the group.
