Argentine outlet TyC Sports this week features an interview with Inter Milan striker Facundo Colidio.

Signed by the Italian side from Boca Juniors in a €9m deal in 2017, the youngster is currently having a loan spell in Belgium, where he’s been featuring for St. Truiden.

But Colidio could’ve had a different path in Europe. That’s because Premier League side Newcastle United got very close to signing him at the time he moved to Italy.

The interest from the Magpies has been confirmed by the 20-year-old in the chat, which started with him explaining his departure from Argentina.

“At Boca I was doing very well, although I was on the bench and the starter was Marcelo Torres. And this offer came to me. I couldn’t believe it, it’s the dream of any boy to play in a big in Europe,” Faculdo Colidio told TyC Sports.

“It was very difficult to say no. If I rejected it, I wouldn’t forgive myself. The club understood it and had no problems, didn’t put obstacles so that I could leave.”

Then when asked if the attempt from Newcastle United was real, he’s confirmed it.

“It was real. It was very close, but it ended up not happening because between the clubs they didn’t agree. And when closing the transfer window in England, this chance appeared.”

Colidio has obviously been asked if he’d like to play for Boca Juniors once again in the future, since he could only feature for the youth levels during his time in Buenos Aires.

“I managed to play twice in La Bombonera. One of them was a preliminary with a lot of people on the pitch and it was something incredible. I always say that I’d like to come back and fulfil the dream of playing in the Bombonera.”

And finally, he was quizzed about staying at Inter Milan next summer, after his loan with St. Truden expires.

“I hope I can, but that will be decided by the club. I’m for what they want. If they prefer that I add more experience, it’s welcome.”
