Reading youngster Omar Richards is a target for Bayern Munich, who are eyeing him as part of their plans should David Alaba leave as expected.

Richards was linked with a move to the Allianz Arena this week, with a report in Germany stating that the Bundesliga champions were keen as he will be available on a free transfer come the summer.

It was explained that played right into Bayern’s hands, with the club planning to avoid big purchases in the near future.

That had led them to look at Reading’s Richards, who they would use as cover for Alphonso Davies should Lucas Hernandez move to centre-back to replace Alaba.

Alaba, of course, is expected to leave the club this summer when his own contract expires and has been linked with a move to the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool.

This has now been backed up by SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says the Reading man being available on a free transfer makes him ‘very attractive’ to Bayern.

“It’s true; he’s very attractive for Bayern Munich as one of the top players in the second English league,” he said.

“He has a charming advantage that he is free in the summer, which is exactly the game-plan for Bayern Munich.

“They need a replacement for David Alaba, and there they have Hernandez in mind, who will move to the inside.

“Therefore they will need a back up for Davies on the left, and that would be an ideal position for Richards, who could learn as a young talent there and then be brought forward sooner or later.
