Brazilian side Cruzeiro are in talks for the signing of Reading goalkeeper Rafael Cabral, according to reports today.

There are now several stories about the chase, and the first was published by Radio Itatiaia. They claim the club have already made contact with the player and now work for the signing.

It’s said Cruzeiro’s advantage in the talks is that Rafael may leave Reading for free, since the club’s recent issues with Financial Fair Play could force them to rescind his contract.

According to Itatiaia, the talks have been on ‘for a few days’, as the Brazilian side have just let their main goalkeeper Fabio leave the club.

Rafael Cabral started the season being Reading’s number one choice for the position, playing their first seven games in the Championship. However, following a hand injury, he left the team and never featured in the league again, being only used in an FA Cup game last weekend.

His contract with the Royals expires at the end of the season.
