Already reported a couple of days ago as being ‘close’ to a move to Udinese, Reading’s Liam Kelly remains at the Championship club for now.

That doesn’t mean he’ll be there by the end of Thursday, however, as Gazzetta dello Sport claim early on transfer deadline day morning that the 23-year-old remains the club’s ‘favourite’ to bolster their midfield.

Seemingly surplus to requirements these days, the former Ireland U21 international hasn’t featured in a league game for the Royals since the 1-0 loss to Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds on November 27th.

Udinese’s other option is Benfica’s Alfa Semedo, who is a bit more defensive than the Reading man.

At the club since 2004, Kelly has made 92 appearances since making his debut during the 2016-17 season, scoring nine goals and picking up nine assists.

Gazzetta dello Sport don’t mention how the deal would be constructed, but previous reports from England suggested it would be on loan.
