Over the past few weeks, there has been a return of the stories involving Tottenham, Tanguy Ndombélé and a potential permanent transfer to Napoli.
The French midfielder was sent on loan to the south of Italy by Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici last summer, with an option to make the move permanent set at around €25m.
For Tottenham, this was a chance to get rid of the player permanently, while Napoli would be getting a player to add depth to Luciano Spalletti’s squad, as well as having a chance of keeping him if he had a great season, like they did with André-Frank Zambo Anguissa last year.
Unfortunately for Ndombélé, he has ended up behind the aforementioned Cameroon international and Piotr Zielinski in the pecking order, which has limited his game time.
That’s through no fault of his own, because the two midfielder have been in great form, but it has hindered the Tottenham player’s chances of getting a permanent move away from Spurs somewhat.
Despite this, he retains the trust of his manager, Spalletti, who praised the player on Friday in a press conference, giving some hope to the Premier League side that a transfer could still be on the cards.
Asked if Ndombélé could still be useful, the Italian manager said, relayed by Il Mio Napoli: “I agree, in the sense that he is a strong player and only the quality that Zielinski and Anguissa have shown in this period has not allowed him to play that much.
“He has strength, technique, he manages to get rid of his marker in one on ones, and the last few times I put him in, he was always ready. I’m considering using him. You read my mind.”
