Bournemouth have taken a decisive step in the Rayan negotiations and, after weeks of tension, the deal in Brazil now looks close to being completed. Perhaps with an assist from Newcastle United links.
According to local insider outlet A Vascaínos and later confirmed and detailed by journalist Gilmar Ferreira, negotiations accelerated on Tuesday evening. Bournemouth agreed to key demands from Vasco and adjusted the structure of the deal. As a result, one of the main obstacles disappeared and talks moved quickly into their final phase.
Crucially, this all came hours after multiple Brazilian reports had Newcastle United knocking Bournemouth out of the way. Now that looks to have potentially been a plan to nudge the Cherries forward.
The fee stands at €35m (£30m). Crucially, the payment is expected to be made upfront, or very close to it. This format has always mattered to Vasco. It helps explain why the long standoff finally eased.
Another decisive change came in the split of the transfer money. Vasco are now set to receive around 70% of the total fee, which would leave the club with roughly €25m (£21m).
Earlier in the process, Vasco feared losing ground because of the division of Rayan’s economic rights. However, that risk has now reduced. The source claims Rayan’s staff agreed to give up part of their share to help finalise the move. In practice, that concession unlocked the agreement.
Player terms underline how advanced things are
On the player’s side, everything is settled. Reports from club insider Lucas Pedrosa say Rayan will sign a five-and-a-half-year contract with Bournemouth, earning around €3m per year.
Still, Vasco made one last attempt to keep him. As Pedrosa revealed during a live broadcast, and as other Brazilian outlets later confirmed, the club offered another renewal. That proposal included a salary increase and the chance to buy part of the family’s percentage.
Rayan refused and stuck to his decision to move to England. For him, the Premier League project and the chance to “change his family’s financial reality” weighed heavily.
Bournemouth close in on the finish line

From Bournemouth’s perspective, the picture has changed fast. After facing resistance, criticism and background competition, the club have now met Vasco’s conditions – and pushed Newcastle United out of the picture.
If everything goes as planned, Rayan will become the most expensive sale in Vasco’s history. And at this point, all signs coming out of Brazil suggest the saga is finally reaching its conclusion.
Unless there’s another twist…
