It seems Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has given up on teasing about a return to his former club Fluminense.
The player had many times claimed he’d like to return to the Rio de Janeiro side before retiring, and that resulted in recent pressure from their fans.
Now interviewed by Esporte Espetacular, in quotes relayed by TNT Sports, the Chelsea star avoided talking about it, claiming he’ll only make a decision when the time comes.
“This is a long-standing relationship, right? But I’d rather keep quiet at the moment, because it’s been controversial in the recent past,” said Thiago Silva.
“I have a family now, I have children. So we have to think about that too. But it’s about seeing where things can bring us happiness, to finish off this beautiful and victorious career that I believe I’ve had.”
Thiago Silva turned 39 last month, so it’s no wonder why Fluminense fans are questioning whether he’ll actually make his comeback before retiring.
There was big hope he could make the move this summer, but back in February, he ended up agreeing to a contract extension with Chelsea, and is now committed to the club until the end of this season.
The defender remains a regular starter for the Blues, included in all of Mauricio Pochettino’s line-ups in the Premier League so far, so he doesn’t have a big reason to leave European football at this stage.
