Radja Nainggolan’s links with Chelsea may be over soon. After months of talks and speculation, the player is now expected to stay at Roma after signing a new contract.

Friday’s edition of Corriere Dello Sport had a story saying the player has agreed to stay, and the club and his representatives are now making a new deal in order to reward his permanence.

It’s not an extension, since Nainggolan doesn’t want to change his old contract’s length, which runs until 2020. But he demands a pay rise.

Nainggolan reportedly earns €3m net salary, plus bonuses which makes it close to €4m per season. Corriere says that Roma want to give him a raise of around €500k, with “no exaggeration”.

Corriere describes the 28-year-old decision as “resisting the temptation” of joining Chelsea.

Despite there being claims several times of an agreed deal for Nainggolan to join Chelsea, Sport Witness were made aware some time ago that talks didn’t go far at all.

After that Chelsea continued to be linked, and have been interested, but Nainggolan is genuinely very happy in Rome.
