West Ham United’s Premier League situation is starting to create transfer noise around Taty Castellanos again – and Flamengo are right in the middle of it.
The Hammers are now dangerously close to relegation after defeat to Arsenal left them needing a near miracle to survive. With only two matches remaining, West Ham would need maximum points and help elsewhere to avoid the drop.
That context inevitably brings Flamengo back into the picture.
Flamengo interest refuses to disappear
As covered previously by Sport Witness, Flamengo have admired Castellanos for a long time.
The Brazilian side already explored the possibility of signing the striker before his move from Lazio to West Ham United. At the time, the Argentine preferred to pursue his Premier League dream instead.
Now, Brazilian reports once again suggest Flamengo are monitoring the situation closely while searching for attacking reinforcements.
Reports in Brazil claim West Ham players would suffer 50% salary reductions if relegation is confirmed, due to clauses included in contracts.
Castellanos’ wages are said to sit at around £75,000 per week, making him one of the club’s better-paid players, even if he is not among the very top earners.
Importantly, this is framed purely around relegation. The latest claims tied any possible move directly to West Ham dropping into the Championship.
There is also a recent relationship between the clubs which could help conversations if the situation develops. Flamengo already negotiated with West Ham for Lucas Paquetá, and the Hammers have also been linked with Gonzalo Plata in recent months.
Profile still seen as ideal fit
Brazilian coverage continues to describe Castellanos as a near-perfect stylistic fit for Flamengo’s attack.
His pressing intensity, movement between defenders and aggressive off-ball work are all highlighted as qualities admired internally. The reports also point towards his experience in competitive leagues, having played in MLS, La Liga, Serie A and now the Premier League.
That versatility remains attractive even if his spell at West Ham has not exploded into life yet.
What happens next
For now, there is no indication of active negotiations between Flamengo and Castellanos’ camp.
West Ham’s immediate priority is survival. However, the closer relegation moves, the more external interest around players becomes inevitable.
Flamengo are clearly positioning themselves carefully. They have admired Castellanos for years, they know the market conditions could shift quickly, and they already have communication channels with West Ham.
Whether that turns into a formal attempt may depend on the next few weeks in England.
