Dutch star Siem de Jong has suffered a number of injuries since joining Newcastle in 2014 in a €9m deal from Ajax.
The unfortunate 27-year-old suffered an injury during pre-season, and is still another week away from returning to first team action.
However, De Jong’s future could be away from the Championship side, and reports suggest he could be heading back to the Netherlands.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf on Friday, PSV are interested in signing De Jong on loan with an option to buy.
It is reported De Jong has several options in and outside England, but the player believes a temporary return to his homeland will be the best option for him.
De Telegraaf say ‘a rapid breakthrough’ is expected in negotiations for De Jong, who could be set for a reunion with his brother Luuk at PSV.
The 27-year-old has another four years left on his contract at Newcastle, and has made just 22 league appearances in two years.
