Ralf Rangnick has ‘recommended’ RB Leipzig star Christoper Nkunku to the club this summer as they plan their rebuild under Erik ten Hag.

That’s according to SportBILD, who say it will take a figure of €70m and above to get the French star out of Leipzig.

Nkunku has been the undisputed star of the show for Leipzig this season; indeed, there’s an argument he’s been the best player in the Bundesliga, with a tally of 31 goals and 20 assists in 48 games in all competitions so far.

That’s seen increased interest in his signature, particularly with his current contract set to expire in June 2024.

That puts Leipzig in an awkward position as he’ll be in the final year of his contract next season if they cannot convince him to sign a new deal.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for months, with almost daily reports from Germany putting them in the race for Nkunku’s signature.

Midway through last month, it was stated that interest was coming via Rangnick, who was a ‘big supporter’ of the player, having signed him for Leipzig from PSG in 2017.

Indeed, he was said to have told Manchester United scouts to keep an eye on the player, with them having failed to do so before that point.

SportBILD now back up that the interest in the Frenchman is coming via their interim manager, who will soon be taking up a consultancy role at the club, stating that Rangnick has ‘recommended’ Nkunku to his bosses at Old Trafford.

According to the newspaper, the player will decide his future at the end of the season, but Leipzig do not want to let him go.

They’ve set a €70m plus asking price on their player, who is ‘one of the hottest stocks’ in the Bundesliga and Europe.

Whether Manchester United or former club PSG, who are ‘also interested’, will pay such a figure isn’t known, but it seems Rangnick is pushing the former to dig deep and make a move.
