Turkish newspaper Takvim report Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel will first speak with the Istanbul side regarding a contract extension before entering into transfer talks with other clubs.
The Slovakia international has again recently been linked with a move to Rangers and a possible reunion with his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard. Skrtel was also linked with a move to Ibrox in the summer as Gerrard looked to improve his defensive options.
Skrtel will become a free agent at the end of the season and will be allowed to speak to clubs outside Turkey in the new year. However, it’s claimed the 33 year old will try to negotiate a new deal with Fenerbahce before weighing up his options.
According to Takvim, Rangers are still showing a strong interest in Skrtel, but it’s not reported whether the SPL club will move in for the defender in the next window or wait until next summer to land him on a free transfer.
It’s been well documented Rangers are interested in Skrtel with Gerrard reportedly pushing for a deal for the former Liverpool defender.
