Fotomac report Fenerbahce have offered Rangers target Martin Skrtel to Newcastle United as they look to get him off their wage bill.
Rangers had reportedly tabled an offer for Skrtel and a possible reunion with his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard looked to be on the cards.
The Scottish Premiership side will lose David Bates to Hamburg on a free transfer next month and Gerrard may look to bring in a central defender to fill the void, especially with Bruno Alves turning 37 this year.
However, Skrtel’s agent confirmed a move to Rangers is unlikely as they wouldn’t be able to meet his demands, whilst the Turkish media have said the Scottish Premiership club’s bid was deemed too low by Fenerbahce.
Subsequently Fotomac claim Fenerbahce officials have offered Skrtel to Newcastle United via agents, as the club are keen to offload the Slovakian.
Last year the 32 year old was linked with a move to Newcastle United and a possible reunion with his former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
Skrtel is earning €4m per season from Fenerbahce and club’s board are hoping to sell him this summer.
The player has also been linked with moves to China and Qatar.
