Jefté’s transfer from Fluminense to Rangers has collapsed, according to claims from Brazil.

Globo Esporte says the reason for that is the lack of an agreement between Philippe Clement’s side and Apoel, where the player is having a loan spell.

It’s said Rangers’ first contact was with Fluminense. An offer was made and there was a positive response from the Brazilian club, who needed to check with Jefré and his current side.

The problem is that Apoel want to keep the player until the end of the season, having that right protected in their contract, and stopped the talks right there.

Globo Esporte then claims the negotiations ‘cooled down’ and the transfer ‘should not take place’ anymore.

Even though Jefté’s spell at Apoel is temporary, the transfer to Rangers was supposed to be permanent, and that’s why Fluminense were positive about it.

Now it remains to be seen whether the Scottish club will try the signing again next summer. Playing for his loan side, the fullback made 20 appearances this season, with three goals and four assists.
