Djeidi Gassama arrived at Ibrox in July 2024, after Rangers signed him from Sheffield Wednesday. He has an opportunity to leave Danny Röhl’s side in the winter market.

Foot Mercato report AS Monaco have tried to take the winger away from Rangers in this window.

The Ligue 1 side’s proposal is to sign the Frenchman on a loan deal until the end of the season with an obligation to buy. There’s no mention of any condition for the purchase obligation to come into effect. The report also doesn’t mention a figure.

In other words, the proposal is to take the 22-year-old away from Ibrox permanently in the summer, but on loan initially.

Rangers invested around €2.4m to sign him and may make a quick profit by accepting Monaco’s offer.

However, Foot Mercato explain the Scottish club have rejected the offer, and offers from other unnamed clubs.

Danny Röhl wants to keep Gassama to help Rangers with their title challenge. Gassama has seven goals and three assists this season and retaining him would improve Rangers’ chances of winning the title.

This would come as a blow for Monaco, after making a concrete attempt to sign the player.

Rangers on a title charge with Danny Röhl

Rangers

Rangers endured a difficult start to the season under Russell Martin, winning only five and losing six of the first 17 matches. This was enough for the Ibrox club to part ways with him in October. Röhl replaced Martin later that month and Rangers’ results have improved under his orders.

The Bhoys have won 14 of their 22 matches under Röhl and that includes only one defeat from 15 league matches. The impressive run since his arrival has helped Rangers climb to second spot in the table.

Rangers are now two points ahead of third placed Celtic and four behind Hearts.
