Russell Martin was finally shown the Rangers exit door this week, after a torrid start to his life at Ibrox. Steven Gerrard is now expected to return to Rangers, and the whole switch may be welcomed by Nicolas Raskin.

Raskin’s father had his say on Martin earlier this season. We covered comments he made to the Belgian media about the manager, and it’s fair to say he wasn’t impressed by his Ibrox impact.

“A coach who leaves out eight players from a team that reached the Europa Cup [Europa League] quarter-final last season, a coach who transfers eight players [and puts them in the team] that he knows very well [this kind of thing still exists!!!!!]. The guy has an oversized ego, to put it mildly,” said Raskin’s father.

Beşiktaş are showing interest in the Rangers midfielder ahead of the next transfer window. The Turkish club have been keen previously, and are attracted by Raskin’s combative nature.

Aspor today report on Beşiktaş pursuit for the Rangers player, and say the Istanbul club are ready to step in for him in the new year.

Beşiktaş manager Sergen Yalcin reportedly wants to sign a defensive midfielder in January after Gedson Fernandes left. The Belgian’s versatility has impressed the Super Lig club.

Russell Martin’s exit and the imminent arrival of Steven Gerrard, may be key here for Rangers. Beşiktaş will likely now find a transfer harder.

Raskin has made 14 appearances for Rangers this season.
