Rangers remain active in the final stage of the winter market. Danny Röhl could see a few players arrive while see some of them leave Ibrox.
Rangers’ Danilo is already on his way to join NEC Nijmegen. On Thursday, the Dutch press reported he is on his way to the Netherlands to complete his move to the Eredivisie side.
Röhl’s side are working on signing Ryan Naderi. FC Hansa Rostock boss Daniel Brinkmann admitted yesterday that his star could move to Ibrox before Monday’s deadline.
Rangers have also looked Standard Liège’s Hakim Sahabo for this window, according to multiple claims from Belgium.
Het Belang van Limburg cover the Scottish club’s interest and why they won’t be able to sign him.
Standard Liège have made the midfielder ‘redundant’. His contract expires in June, with an option to extend it for another year. Although he isn’t part of their plans, the Belgian club have activated this option, so they can sell him.
Rangers came forward with an offer. HBVL make no mention of the details and state that it was rejected. The Rwanda international now seems to be on his way to AEK Athens for €1.5m.
Sudinfo, another Belgian newspaper, echoes HBVL’s claim and share more details. The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Beerschot. Since returning to the parent club, he played 662 minutes from 16 matches.
Rangers don’t appear to have made full effort
Sahabo hasn’t made an appearance in the Jupiler Pro League since November, partly due to an injury.
Standard Liège extended his contract until 2027 to facilitate his move before deadline. It’s claimed Röhl’s side were the first to show interest in the midfielder.
Rangers made an offer to bring him to Ibrox. Sudinfo report the fee proposed was less than €1m. and this didn’t please the Belgian club, who have turned it down.
AEK Athens then joined Rangers and have been pushing hard to sign Sahabo. According to the report, the Greek club have now found an agreement with Standard Liège for 1.5m.
In this way, Rangers miss out on signing a player who was on the exit ramp. It would have to be assumed the Glasgow club weren’t going full throttle for this signing.
