Rangers’ options for a new man in charge at Ibrox may be about to become one name shorter, as Sweden have contacted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That’s according to Fotboll Direkt, who report that Solskjaer, who has been linked to Rangers in recent days, is very much in the mix to replace Jon Dahl Tomasson. He was sacked by Sweden today following the 1-0 defeat to Kosovo on Monday.

Solskjaer was immediately named as a potential candidate. He’s been on Sweden’s list for some time and was even considered before Tomasson was appointed last year.

He’s currently a free agent after leaving Besiktas. That’s seen him linked with a move to Rangers. The current odds have him in second place for the Ibrox position. That could be about to change, though.

Fotboll Direkt report he’s already been contacted by Sweden about their now vacant position. In fact, he’s been spoken to while other candidates, such as Graham Potter, have not. That would suggest their interest is serious.

Even his agent, Jim Solbakken, is playing coy on the interest and refusing to comment. That would suggest something is going on.

“I don’t have a comment right now. You’ll have to call again in a few days,” he said when contacted about the matter.

It seems, then, if Rangers are considering Solskjaer for the manager’s position at Ibrox, they need to move quickly. Sweden certainly aren’t holding back with their interest.
