Earlier this week, we covered the French media bringing bad news for Rangers, who were said to be considering Philippe Clement for the vacancy at Ibrox.
It was claimed that Al-Shabab are also interested in the French manager, and the Saudi money could make things a lot harder for Rangers to convince him to arrive in Glasgow.
Now as Foot Mercato features an update on the situation, Rangers may feel even more pessimistic about that potential pursuit.
It’s now claimed that Clement has actually opened talks to take charge of Al-Shabab, with a meeting scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia this week.
The club are said to be quite focused on reaching an agreement with the Frenchman to replace Juan Brown, who was recently sacked.
Clement has been unemployed since June, when he left Monaco. He had a record of 37 wins in 73 matches ahead of the Ligue 1 side, but it’s his general career which will have attracted Rangers.
With him travelling to Saudi Arabia to speak to Al-Shabab, it’s hard to imagine him not taking that deal, meaning he’s one off the list for Rangers.
