Rangers’ Cyriel Dessers has been linked with a move back to Serie A repeatedly in the past few weeks.

Empoli and Cagliari have been mentioned as potential suitors for the striker, who has previously played for Cremonese in Italy.

Rai News have reported today that Cagliari want a new striker before the January transfer window slams shut and Dessers is a ‘favourite’ target.

Despite that, the 30-year-old is unlikely to join the Sardinian side, because he is ‘not an economical profile’ for the club due to how much Rangers would demand for him.

The report considers the fact that Dessers has played a role in their progression to the next round of the Europa League, and it’s thought he’d therefore be too difficult for them to take away.

He assisted against Union SG yesterday and scored against Manchester United last week, which obviously brought more attention to the Rangers player.

That puts him out of reach for Cagliari, unless Rangers are feeling especially generous at the end of the window. Empoli’s local media hasn’t ruled the Tuscany club out yet, although one would assume it’s a similar stance.
