Rangers have started efforts to strengthen Danny Röhl’s squad in the winter market.

The Scottish club have set their sights on 1. FC Nürnberg’s Berkay Yilmaz. That’s at least what Bild are reporting, and they provide the latest on Rangers.

Yilmaz initially joined the second division German club on loan from SC Freiburg in August 2024. Last summer, his temporary stay was extended for another season.

The left-back has been a regular this season and has even contributed four goals from 14 matches.

It’s claimed several clubs are keen on securing his services in January. R

angers, Toulouse and unnamed Dutch club have already shown interest in the 20-year-old.

In addition, clubs from the Bundesliga, Serie A and the La Liga side are also keen on the Turkey U21 international. The fullback is said to be open to moving to one of these three leagues, making a potential deal complicated for Rangers.

Rangers will have to be persuasive

Freiburg can exercise their clause to recall the player in the next window. If that happens, they’ll have to pay €300k to Nürnberg.

According to Bild, the possibility of Yilmaz leaving in January has been ruled out. Despite interest from several clubs, including Rangers, he wants to finish the season at Nürnberg, where he’s extremely comfortable.

After this season, Yilmaz has to return to Freiburg, and they have to make a decision on his future. Bild reports it’ll cost at least €5m to secure his services.
