On Tuesday, we covered claims from the Dutch press that FC Twente’s Gijs Smal has ended up on Rangers’ transfer agenda. It was also explained that Philippe Clement’s side have made an approach to bring the left-back to Ibrox in the winter market.
Voetbal International made this claim and it wasn’t specified whether Philippe Clement’s side have approached the 26-year-old or the Eredivisie side.
This information about Rangers is shared by Tubantia journalist Leon ten Voorde, relayed by Twente Fans.
The Dutchman has less than six months left on his contract and with Twente not receiving any approach from Rangers so far, the outlet claims there’s a ‘small chance’ for him to leave this month.
As it stands, the fullback is expected to leave Twente in the summer, when his contract expires. The website isn’t clear whether Philippe Clement and Rangers will wait until then to try and bring Smal to Ibrox.
Claims from Turkey which suggested there’s an agreement in place haven’t been backed up in the Netherlands.
Smal missed the first two months of this season with a calf injury and has been a regular since then, making 13 appearances so far.
