Rangers are one of the clubs named in a building competition to sign Danilho Doekhi from Vitesse this summer.

The 22-year-old is a central defender, and has represented the Netherlands at various youth levels. Now he’s looking to take a higher step, and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will be able to take advantage of his contract situation, and an expected summer exodus at the Dutch club.

De Telegraaf are reporting the news in their Monday edition, and they concentrate on Newcastle interest and a building transfer tussle for the youngster.

Serie A’s Atalanta, along with Norwich and Fulham, could also provide competition for the Scottish Premiership club.

There’s no indication of what Rangers or anyone else would have to pay, but given the player’s contract expires next year there’s not a great deal of power in Vitesse’s hands.

That’s why the club would welcome a transfer battle for him, surely hoping that would drive the price higher.
