Gonçalo Borges doesn’t want to join Rangers, Strasbourg or anyone else for that matter.
O Jogo report the 23-year-old Rangers target is currently the happiest he’s been in his career and he feels very optimistic about having at breakthrough season at FC Porto.
On Monday, we covered a report from Portugal which spoke of €6m offer from Philippe Clement’s side. That Rangers offer was described as being ridiculous by the Portuguese media who felt it was far too low for a player who seems on the edge of big development.
Strasbourg had also made a low offer, but O Jogo say they’ve returned with something higher. The French club are now at €8m, and Porto are said to be working to increase that to €10m with bonuses, also wanting to keep a percentage of a future sale.
That sounds very much like they’re prepared to sell a player who doesn’t want to leave. There’s even talk of him being pressured and persuaded, presumably with a big salary.
For Rangers, the numbers may now be going higher than they would have considered paying for the attacker. It’s also not especially attractive to sign a player who appears to be being forced out against his will, and that’s something Philippe Clement and Rangers would surely consider.
