Dr Eduardo Mauri really is an interesting character. The soon to be Manchester City employee knows a thing or two about professional football, given that he used to play for Espanyol.

Studying to become a doctor after his professional career ended, Mauri fits perfectly what a club would want. But then his CV gets even better.

Previously director of the sports medicine unit in Hospital Quiron, Mauri has experience of Premier League footballers. Quiron’s facilities and expertise haven’t just been used by Spanish players, but are renowned worldwide.

In September 2015, Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois chose the hospital to help with his knee problem. In January of this year it was the turn of Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen.

They’re not the only two, and Manchester City’s very own Vincent Kompany has used Quiron too. There’s clearly a lot of Belgian respect for the Quiron hospital group!

When Courtois was injured, a little Sport Witness research found out that the Quiron medical group are considered to be pioneers in the treatment of meniscus injuries and the surgical repair of such.

Courtois was treated by Dr Ramon Cugat, and he’s an expert in arthroscopic surgery which is a type of keyhole surgery.

Eduardo Mauri Ramon Cugat Mundo Deportivo September 6thTuesday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo says that Mauri currently resides in Doha, and has made several trips to England to sort out the final details of his Manchester City contract, for a role he’ll start in a couple of weeks.

Interestingly, Mundo Deportivo explain that Mauri has been accompanied by Dr Cugat.

Dr Cugat has a list of patients which could make up a brilliant football squad, he’s operated on several of Spain’s greatest, and many from around the world.

The involvement of Dr Cugat in Dr Mauri’s talks with Manchester City may well represent a wider agreement, so the two experts, and perhaps more at the Quiron group, will be ready to give Manchester City advice and treatment options.

Pep Guardiola is well known for wanting medical miracles from his back-up staff, something which led to one of his less positive moments at Bayern Munich.

With Manchester City now seemingly Quiron-ed, Guardiola will have people he knows from treating greats such as Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Carlos Puyel.
