Remember Ramiro Funes Mori?

The defender hasn’t been seen in an Everton first team shirt for a long time and whilst a big part of that was down to his knee injury, the player himself has made it clear he’s fit to play and it sounds like he has been for a while.

Speaking to TyC Sports in Argentina, the 27 year old revealed he’d asked his agent to get him a transfer out of Everton and back to River Plate, so he’d have a better chance of being ready for the World Cup this summer.

Clearly happy to talk about his situation, Funes Mori explained: “I wanted to go back to River to get up to pace and get to the World Cup well, so I told my agent, but it was difficult, so it’s over and everything is fine.”

Further quoted by Ole, the Everton defender said: “I’ve already demonstrated what I can do with the national team… I’m fit to play. If I haven’t had so many minutes after the injury it’s because of the decisions of the coach.”

Should Sam Allardyce continue to overlook Funes Mori then a summer transfer may be even likelier, especially if Everton stick with the manager beyond the summer.

But the player will hope something can change quickly at Goodison Park, and given that he’s been called up for the current Argentina squad, that would surely see him have a reasonable chance of going to the World Cup.
