Newcastle United have been strongly linked with a move for French striker Sébastien Haller. The 22-year-old plays for Eredivisie side FC Utrecht, and scored 24 goals last season.
Earlier, L’Equipe reported Newcastle are interested in signing Haller, and the Magpies have already contacted FC Utrecht to know the conditions of the transfer.
L’Equipe reported Sporting CP are also interested in the player, whilst Dutch media outlet Voetbal International claimed AS Monaco are very serious about their interest in Haller.
Voetbal International reported Newcastle are interested as well, but the player isn’t keen on signing for the Championship side.
According to L’Equipe on Sunday, Rafael Benitez made a phone call to Haller to explain to him the project, and let him know of their intention to make an offer.
L’Equipe say Newcastle have moved concretely in the past few hours, and that a phone call from Benitez wouldn’t leave the player ‘insensitive’.
Haller has another three years left on his contract at the Eredivsie club, and has found the back of the net in both the league games this season.
