On Tuesday evening, Andrea Radrizzani revealed how Leeds United’s signing of Wilfried Gnonto was done a bit earlier than anticipated.

That was the result of a few failed transfer moves, but the Whites eventually decided to bring the move forward and welcomed the Italian striker in August.

He took some time to make his first appearance for Leeds, but when he did, his impact was such that he is now seen as a regular starter for the club.

That’s great news for the Elland Road club, meaning their investment was a good one, but also for Roberto Mancini, who helped put the player on the map when he called him up to the Italy national team back when he was still an FC Zürich player.

The manager was asked about the Leeds player once again, this time by TuttoMercatoWeb, as the outlet wondered if he would get a chance to add to his eight caps in the next international break.

Mancini said: “Maybe. Gnonto is a young boy. No one has thought of signing him, but he plays as a starter in the Premier League, and that’s not a given at 19. He can still improve, and he’s young. He has quality. I hope other young players can follow his example and go abroad to play. If they’re good, then they play.”
