When Brighton & Hove Albion were first linked to Vitória Guimarães star Jota Silva, it seemed like that could be a great market opportunity,
The winger, who has 15 goals and seven assists this season, has been part of Portugal’s international squad and was recently named player of the month in the league. So his €20m release clause sounded like a great price for him.
It turns out that as CNN pundits Sofia Oliveira and Bruno Andrade now talk about his situation, they claim the Brighton target should cost less.
Starting with Sofia, she’s the one who makes the toughest comments. She claims that Silva does not have enough quality to be worth €20m, and with Benfica recently linked to him, she says he’s not good to play for the Eagles.
Andrade agrees with her by claiming the €20m price, which is the amount demanded by Vitória Guimarães, is ‘too high’. Still, he brings some reasons why interested clubs could pay that much.
It’s said that Silva is not represented by Jorge Mendes, but it is the Gestifute owner who is one of those intermediating the deal. And with the player’s qualities, it would be no surprise if the agent finds a deal for someone to pay that amount. The journalist just claims he doesn’t see Benfica paying that much.
Brighton’s interest was originally revealed last month, when the Portuguese media claimed that the Seagulls sent a scout to Portugal to specifically watch the winger. With not much competition for the signing, we’ll see if they’ll be convinced to pay.
These comments, which seem a little odd, shouldn’t put them off.
