Celtic did not deserve the point they earned against Atalanta, with luck working in favour of Brendan Rodgers’ side.
That’s according to pundit Oscar Magoni, whose comments on the game have been relayed by Calcio Atalanta.
Celtic secured a highly credible point against the Italian side on Wednesday evening, with a solid defensive display keeping the score at 0-0.
Atalanta pretty much dominated the game, managing 22 shots in total and six on target as well as dominating possession 67% to 33% throughout but found Celtic resolute.
Most were happy to praise the Scottish champions after the game, particularly after the 7-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in matchday two.
The point took Celtic up to 20th in the table, with one win, one draw and one loss in their three games so far taking them to four point so far and only two behind the sides, such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, currently occupying the middle of the table.
It’s a result which they may look back on with pride down the line, but Magoni wasn’t impressed by what he saw and thinks luck played its part.
“He (Atalanta) attacked for ninety minutes, a bit of luck was missing,” Calcio Atalanta report him saying to 1 Football Club.
“Moreover, Atalanta could only have scored, even if Celtic had a great defensive phase. A shame, because if there was anyone who should have won it was definitely Atalanta.”
