For a while now, it’s been very clear that Antonio Cassano isn’t the biggest fan of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
The former Italy forward has repeated on a number of times that while he appreciates what the Norwegian star brings to a team, that doesn’t necessarily make him want to watch him on a regular basis.
This argument was once again put forward on Wednesday in a chat on Bobo TV with Christian Vieri, relayed by Area Napoli, as Cassano singled out the Manchester City striker and had some choice words to say about him.
He started off by swearing a lot when the topic of Haaland was brought up, with his host then trying to explain that the whole world believes the 23-year-old to be a great player.
That’s when Cassano seemed to calm down a bit and clarified his thoughts about the Manchester City forward.
He said: “About Haaland, if we talk about records and goals, everyone can see that he is a strong footballer. For me, it’s not all about goals. Haaland will never excite me. By that, I’m not saying that he cannot play. I don’t care about records, the same goes for Cristiano Ronaldo.
“For me, Julian Alvarez is stronger than Haaland qualitatively and I always prefer him because he also plays for the team.”
It’s a fair argument to make, although some will obviously disagree with him, as both players are required to do different jobs in Pep Guardiola’s plans when they play.
Manchester City bought Haaland for one reason and one reason only, and it certainly wasn’t his role in the build up to a goal.
