Southampton boss Claude Puel has revealed former Tottenham director of sport, Damien Comolli, helped him to get the Premier League club job.
Puel has been speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe. In a long interview, the manager discussed several things, and was asked if it was his agent, who helped him sign for Southampton.
He said: “No, but Damien Comolli facilitated things. And then they were already on my profile.”
Comolli spent several years in English football, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham, and it’s not really surprising to see him getting involved. L’Equipe especially pick out the Tottenham period, maybe because of all the recent movement between Southampton and Spurs.
The French boss has had a reasonable start at Southampton, who sit at eighth place in the Premier League table, with 13 points from 9 games.
Puel arrived with a big reputation after OGC Nice impressed many in the Ligue 1 last season, and they are at the top of the table this season. Much like Southampton, Nice are succeeding in changing managers and keeping the club stable.
There’s no explanation from Puel or L’Equipe about a longer term Comoli role at Southampton.
