Paris Saint-Germain will take on Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-final at Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
Ahead of this clash, PSG star Désiré Doué praised Aston Villa during the pre-match press conference.
RMC Sport took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to relay his comments. The winger insists Aston Villa deserves to be in the last eight of the Europe’s elite club competition.
The Birmingham club finished eighth in the group table, ahead of the likes of PSG, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. The Villans even defeated the Bavarian club in the group stage and overcame Club Brugge in the previous round to make it to the quarter-final.
The 19-year-old has urged his teammates to be at their best in both legs to make it to the semi-final.
“When you reach the quarter-final, there are no coincidences. If Aston Villa are here, it’s because they deserve it,” he said.
“We’re approaching this match with great seriousness. We’re going there to win. We have to be serious from start to finish. In the return leg too.”
The France international was asked about facing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. He was instrumental in helping Argentina beat France in the 2022 World Cup final.
Martínez’s antics didn’t go down well with Les Bleus fans and hasn’t been well received on his visits to France.
On facing the Aston Villa stopper, Doué explained: “Martinez? He’s a goalkeeper like any other. I haven’t faced him yet. The goal will be to score as many goals as possible against him.”
