With Manchester United having many attacking options in their current squad, it’s been rare to see rumours about the Red Devils chasing offensive players ahead of the January transfer window.
So it’s with a little but of surprise that when reading the Italian media today, we suddenly get to see Mauro Icardi being linked with an Old Trafford move.
That’s a story brought by Calcio Mercato, who were originally concerned about Juventus’ interest in the Paris Saint Germain striker. Then they learned that the 28-year-old could actually be involved in another transfer.
With Edinson Cavani possibly leaving for Barcelona, it’s said Icardi could ‘end up right at United’. That’s a move which would ‘cut off Juventus in the race for the centre-forward’.
Since Icardi doesn’t have a lot of playing time in a team which counts on Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, he’s said to be ‘experiencing complex months’ at the French side.
Calcio Mercato insists that the Argentine is still ‘close to Juventus’, but they make it clear that if Manchester United actually go for him to replace Cavani, the Old Lady could end up ‘dry mouthed’ in January.
