On April 21st, Manchester United announced Ajax coach Erik ten Hag will be their next manager.

Since then, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has been repeatedly linked with the Red Devils as he played under the 52-year-old when the pair were at Ajax.

Towards the end of last month, AS reported that it is an ‘open secret’ that Ten Hag wants the midfielder at Manchester United.

Journalist Gerard Romero has provided more information on the Premier League side’s chances of landing the Netherlands international in the summer.

He released a short clip, on Twitter , detailing the ‘probable departure’ of De Jong, to Manchester United in the ‘coming weeks’.

As per the journalist , there is a ’95 percent probability’ the player will be transferred to the English club before the end of the La Liga season. Barcelona have two games left this term, against Getafe [on Sunday] and Villarreal on May 22nd.

The decision of Xavi Hernández’s side to sell the Dutchman is ‘pure economic’, since they need to ‘sell a player’ who has not reached the desired level. Romero explains the deal to take De Jong to Manchester United ‘would be closed between €70m and €80m’.

Despite making all these claims, Romero, who can be excitable, does warn ‘the situation can still change’. Barca, however, are certain that if De Jong stays for one more season and he fails to impress, then his value will drop.

Over at Cadena Ser, their journalist, Manu Carreño also reported De Jong could leave the Camp Nou in the summer as Barcelona ‘would study offers’ for him and Marc-André ter Stegen.
